Elections have always been a crucial criterion for measuring citizen participation in political processes in southern Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, due to diverse regimes and government systems, it has always been challenging to assess whether an emerging pattern can indicate something about the process of democratic consolidation in the subregion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
